I have noticed an emerging trend in the spiritual growth arena these days. It is the trend toward "heart centeredness" in our lives. As far as trends go, this is the most "heartening" one I've seen in quite a while! It finally seems as though our spiritual trends are turning from years of inward focused spiritual growth toward finding a way to make that spiritual growth real in the world through individuals thoughts, actions and words. From magazine articles on how emotion is linked to physical wellness to an explosion in workshops and classes on opening the heart, evidence of this trend is cropping up everywhere.

And, there is good reason for that. With the rise in heart disease and other stress-related debilitating illness, the link between your emotional state and your physical health has never been clearer. Research at the Institute of HeartMath™ in Boulder Creek, California has brought to the forefront the link between emotional state and physical health. The new book The Biology of Transcendence by Joseph Chilton Pierce has taken that research a step farther and linked sustained emotional states to physical evolution and spiritual awareness. My own work in the Primus Activation Technique meditation & healing modality explores the link between electromagnetic field interaction and emotional state for DNA activation, healing and evolution.

At any book store you can find many new books that focus on feeling more centered within the heart and living from the heart. "Living from the heart" is a simple phrase that describes a simple thing- reaching and maintaining a state of connection to the heart and a loving, compassionate or appreciative emotional state. This state creates specific biochemical and physical shifts in the body that enhance brain function, reduce stress levels, and activate one's intuitive and healing abilities. By maintaining this state, one is able to base all of one's daily choices, actions, words and even thoughts, on the intelligence of the heart.

When I speak of being in a state of "love" I am not speaking of feeling "in love" as you might in an intimate relationship, or being in a state of blindly saying that everything is o.k. and you love everything. I am speaking of moving into a specific vibrational state that is characterized by actual shifts within the body, mind and spirit. This state is reached when you quietly focus on thoughts of people or things that you really do love, or that cause you to feel love, appreciation or compassion. Through this focused meditation, your body will move into an energetic and physical state that is optimum for physical healing and spiritual awareness.

While "living from the heart" may sound simple, simple does not always mean easy. At first, the practice of living from the heart takes quite a bit of focus and awareness-a level of awareness that most people are not used to or comfortable with. It also tends to illuminate quite quickly what aspects of your life are out of resonance with the heart frequency. This includes your own habits, behaviors, thoughts, words and patterns that you may not have been quite so aware of before. This process of revelation and cleansing creates powerful changes in one's life, outlook and priorities. It can heal relationships, physical issues, and of course, the heart. Living in this vibrational state allows you to free yourself from past pain or trauma and to deep and powerful new relationships with everyone in your life. The only price for these wonderful effects is a willingness to open your heart and the courage to continue to practice being in a heart-centered space.

There are several techniques you can use to reach this state. The Institute of HeartMath™ offers an actual device that hooks up to your computer to allow you to visually practice entering this state by playing a kind of biofeedback game on your computer screen.. The Primus Meditation also assists one in reaching a heart-centered state. The more you practice being in this state, the more pronounced its effects become. The more decisions, choices and communications you make while in this heart-centered state, the more your life and our world will come to reflect the energy of the heart, instead of the conflict and violence created by an ego ruled life. As more people make the shift toward living from the heart, our world will definitely reflect this change, leading to new and better social, economic and political structures.
